PostSubject: 24 Hours of Lemons   Mon Aug 04, 2008 9:34 pm

Sorry I didn't post this sooner, but I didn't know there was a new forum. Anyway, a group of us ran the 24 Hours of Lemons race at Carolina Motorsports Park July 26th and 27th. We were running 20th 11 hours into the 14 hour event when our clutch packed it in. The car is still in good shape and we will be back. The race is an absolute blast and if you have any desire to go racing, have a group of stupid friends and a few extra bucks I would highly recommend it.

We ended up welding in a cage ourselves. I don't know if we came out ahead if you included time but we saved a bunch of cash.

The race was great and we did pretty good. We all stayed clean and the car is in good shape aside from the clutch.

Wow, thats looks like fun!

Which car was ya'lls?

Can get kinda expensive though.
$500 car + safety equipment
$500 entry fee + $100 per driver (4-6drivers required!)
Gas... tires... brakes.

I'd still do it if the opportunity arose

#26 Escort. Here is Jalopnik.com's gallery for our car...
http://jalopnik.com/photogallery/LMS0826/

All together I estimate we dropped about $3300 on the whole deal. That said, my friend, my wife and I all own a 1/3 share of a race car now. It survived the race just fine except for the clutch so getting into the next race should be much cheaper. Spreading the cost and all that. We built the cage to SCCA spec so we can do track days if we want without much hassle. All our personal safety gear is all up to date. So if you look at is as a one time thing then yeah, it cost a few bucks, but if you you can't really put a price on the experience. We had lots of fun.
